They Jump from tree to tree

Sprinkled
On the leaves that drift in the fragrant breeze
Afternoon rainstorm
Lost all of my energy
Maybe take a nap
Sitting on beach chair
Sun cooks oil coated skin
Tide rolls in cools feet
Surviving
Decades of storms
The sea grape tree
Wrapped around side of shack
Continues growing
Probably
Will outlast me
Small white bird
Five meters above whitecaps
Floating
Eyeballing
Then

Torpedoes into ocean
Catching prize
Dark clouds everywhere
Strong wind blows them away
Only 10 a.m.
Hot sun fills the stage
Perfect beach day

A snake
Lounging
On a stepping stone
Catching some rays
Squirrels
Practicing
Acrobatics
In the coconut trees
Birds
Stop
At the feeders
For a quick breakfast
Frustrated
Cat
Needs playmate
No rain birdbath dry
Turtle swimming in koi pond
Wife has hot flashes
We are slowly moving along.
I’m whistling and singing songs.
The early morning ocean is calm.
Dolphins swim by to take a look.
First mate is down below reading her book.
No need for a life of luxury.
This small old sailboat is enough for my woman and me.
It is cooler than normal on this May Southeast Florida morning. I’m on my knees, running my fingers thru the dirt. My hands are dirty and this makes me feel happy. The earth provides and I’m grateful. The vegetable growing season is almost over and I will soon place a light coat of mulch on the dormant garden area. Nighttime is for sitting in my recliner, smoking my pipe, reading the seed catalogs, and dreaming of next gardening season.

Constantly making a mess
Fruit is delicious
Closing front gate
Daylight gone tools in the shed

Stuck on my kitchen window
Nonjudgmental friend
Wet chilly morning
Crawling out of warm bed
Chickens need to be fed
Watching dry waterfall
No running water just rocks
Bird rests his mind
Winter cold snap
Honeybell oranges soon ripe
Gastronomic delight
Note to readers: Poem refers to Florida winter gardening. Just a bit of cold gives citrus a kick of extra sweetness.
