The car is a status symbol
For Americans
You are what you drive!
–
Until a pandemic hits the shore
And the world watches our miles long free food lines packed with luxury SUVs
The façade cracked
–
American model
Work, work hard, work harder
Paycheck, paycheck, paycheck
SPEND IT ALL

It is a job
What more can I tell you?
I work 8.5 hours a day
Half hour lunch
I wear a mask
Follow the rules
Every two weeks collect my pay
My two week once a year vacation is spent sitting home on my recliner
Resting
My body
Mind
Soul

Looked at the blank wall
Then
Started having a conversation
With an non existing person
Which was just the wall
He then turned
And
Introduced me to the wall
What could I do?
“Hello, how are you?”

She abruptly wakes up shaking and nauseated
Sometimes dry heaving
Reaching for that magical pill to calm everything down
Will it work this morning?
She sits up in her bed waiting for the nerves to settle down
Careful not to fall back asleep
One hour goes by
The body settles down
Surviving another morning
Apprehensive
She struggles until the next dosage
